TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
• Supervises service, maintenance and repair of all school district vehicles in absence of Administrator for Transportation Services;
• Provides direct supervision to Senior Bus Drivers;
• Writes specifications for new vehicles and equipment;
• Oversee that road tests and training of new drivers is done accurately in accordance with 19A requirements;
• Recruits and trains school bus drivers
• Prepares State transportation reports and maps of bus routes;
• Keeps a daily record of mileage and number of pupils carries;
• Prepares periodic reports which include cost of operating each bus on the basis of expenses for gasoline, oil, grease, anti-freeze, parts, labor wages, storage or rental and other expenses;
• Investigates accidents and completes required reports;
• Approves all purchases of parts and materials in absence of Administrator for Transportation Services;
• Arranges for all special trips including those for athletic teams and student field trips;
• Ensures compliance of the maintenance of time records of transportation staff for payroll purposes;
• Oversees Automotive Mechanics in prevention maintenance or repair work;
• May operate a school bus on an assigned route;
• Performs related work as required.

Operates a school bus on a regular schedule or on special occasions; checks the operating conditions of the bus before starting on a trip; reports any operational defect to immediate supervisor; informs children about safety practices; maintains orderly conduct of children on bus; keeps interior and exterior of vehicle clean and neat; maintains records of mileage, routes, times and incidents; prepares and maintains maps of routes and pick-up points; assists handicapped students with getting on and off the bus and being seated when necessary.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:   Performs skilled operations in the repair and overhaul of gasoline and diesel motor equipment, including trucks, tractors and buses; repairs or replaces motor pumps, fuel pumps, generators, carburetors and shock absorbers; repairs ignition systems, transmissions, brake systems, clutches and front and rear axles; adjusts connecting rods and bearings; adjusts steering mechanisms and aligns wheels; makes minor welding repairs to automotive equipment; greases vehicles, changes oil and oil filters; tunes engines and sets the timing; attaches and removes snowplow blades and other auxiliary equipment; body work repair; may operate a school bus on an assigned route.
